Even though the general goal of all internet marketers is to sell products and services online, it doesn't mean that's your only goal. Avoiding too many ads on one page, and resisting the temptation to mislabel links will keep your visitors from getting frustrated.
Don't Use Too Many Ads
Whether you choose to sell to visitors by using contextual advertising like Adsense or link directly to a merchant through an affiliate network, it's important not to bombard visitors with offers.
When you have too many ads within a small area it looks "spammy", meaning visitors will get the instant impression that there isn't anything worth reading on the page. Landing on a website and being greeted by dozens of ads can have an immediate negative impact.
It's better to strategically place ads throughout your content and make sure your offers are relevant.
Yes, everyone uses ringtones but do you really want to advertise ringtones to every single visitor? Probably not. If you had a post related to the cost and exploding popularity of ringtones, then an ad to purchase ringtones would be very relevant.
Don't Surprise Your Visitors
You can't trick someone into pulling out a credit card and making an online purchase. It has to be a willing decision. With that in mind you should avoid the temptation to send a visitor to an unexpected page.
For instance, some will place a link on their webpage that says "click to learn more about hybrid cars". But when the visitor clicks the link, it takes them to a completely unrelated page that tries to sell them something.
Not only will you not get a sale this way, you'll thoroughly annoy your visitors to the point where they'll never return to your website.
