How To Start An Adwords Campaign

Starting an Adwords campaign may seem a little intimidating the first time you log in, but once you understand the basic structure and concepts of a campaign it's not that hard. Below are some quick campaign tips.

Select Keywords

When someone types a query into Google his keywords are telling you what that search user is looking for, and more importantly if he is likely to buy something online.

When you're setting up an Adwords Campaign you use these keywords to trigger your advertisements. Who do you want to see your ads? If you were selling designer handbags would you want to advertise your products to someone searching for a new television? Probably not.

Use keywords to match your product to the appropriate query.

Write An Ad

This is what search users see when they type in your keywords into a search engine. You want to call out to the search user, "this is what you're looking for". Use ad copy that speaks directly to what they're searching for.

If their search query is for "cheap dvd players", your ad should be consistent with their mindset. You can target this customer by using an ad headline such as "DVD Player Sale" or "Low Price DVD Player" or simply mimic his query with "Cheap DVD Players".

Choose Your Maximum Bid

The final stage of your campaign is where you decide how much you want to spend per click. Remember that in the initial stages you're trying to find the best keywords and ads. You don't know which keywords will yield the highest conversions so don't over bid in the beginning.

Once you've gotten some data and know which keywords are bringing in sales you can start to increase their maximum bids while lowering or eliminating keywords that aren't producing.
